[INVITATION] Launch of the Executive Summary Favela Nova Brasília | 32 years of mourning and struggle #Boletim 06 2026

Wednesday, May 6, 2026

Hello!

May 8th marks the 31st anniversary of the second massacre in the Nova Brasília favela. This date prompts reflection: what has changed since then?

In a quest for memory and justice, the Institute for Religious Studies (ISER) and the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) are launching... Executive Summary: Case Study of Favela Nova Brasília, at the Auditorium of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, on May 8th, at 9:30 AM.

We invite you to participate in this meeting that will bring together representatives from civil society organizations, the justice system, victims' families, and groups committed to defending human rights.

More than a summary of the non-compliance with the international decision, the Executive Summary emerges as a call to memory, reflection, and justice. The document analyzes the persistent non-compliance with the judgment of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which, in 2017, condemned the Brazilian State for serious human rights violations and determined measures of reparation and non-repetition.

Remembering the Favela Nova Brasília case is to acknowledge the struggle for justice and the memory of interrupted lives, silenced stories, and policies that insist on repeating patterns of violence.

The launch is a space for this: to remember, question, and strengthen collective paths that defend life, dignity, and rights.

We look forward to seeing you at this debate:

Date: Friday, May 8th
Location: Auditorium of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office – Av. Nilo Peçanha, 31 – Centro, Rio de Janeiro
Time: 9:30 AM

We continue the fight for memory, justice, and non-repetition.

Remember ISER's role in the Favela Nova Brasília case.
