custody hearing

In conjunction with civil society partners, ISER has produced critical knowledge about the implementation of the Custody Hearing in Brazil, a judicial ritual in which a judge must analyze the legality of an arrest in flagrante delicto, the need for measures precautionary measures and the possible occurrence of torture against the arrested person. We therefore highlight the platform https://www.audienciadecustodia.org.br/audiencia-de-custodia, which brings together information about this judicial institute, its relationship with the fight against mass incarceration and torture. In addition, we published the work From Presence to Screen: Disembodiment of Custody Hearings in the Pandemic in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Communications from ISER nº 74), on custody hearings in the Covid-19 pandemic. The publication is the result of research that analyzes the content of judicial decisions handed down by the Rio de Janeiro judiciary between March and August 2020 in arrest records in flagrante delicto.
