Issues in dispute in Brazilian politics

Religious agendas in the 57th Legislature of the Chamber of Deputies (2023–2027)

Since February 2023, ISER has been monitoring the legislative output of the Chamber of Deputies to track the relationship between religion and politics in the National Congress. The report analyzes both proposals that directly address religion and projects on topics such as security, family, education, rights, culture, and democracy.

The monitoring shows where and how religious references, values, and identities appear in parliamentary activity. It is particularly important to observe the political uses of these repertoires: which themes they mobilize, which positions they help to sustain, and how they relate to proposals that affect rights and public policies. The report presents an overview of these disputes in the current legislature and is part of ISER's ongoing work monitoring the relationship between religion and politics in Brazil.
